The Buy-Sell Report has 115 franchise dealership store records for July to September 2026. Of them, 107 are buy-sells, 8 are new openings and 0 are closures.
For the second quarter, April to June 2026, it has 134 franchise dealership store records, of which 131 are buy-sells, 2 are new openings and 1 is a closure.
Month by month

- August 2026: 35 store records, of which 33 are buy-sells, 2 are new openings and 0 are closures.

Franchises and states
The franchises with the most store records in the quarter are Ford (14); Chevrolet (13); Nissan (10); Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram (8); and Honda (8).
The states with the most store records in the quarter are CA (20), TX (11) and NC (10), followed by 3 states with 5 store records each.
A store that sells several brands on one franchise record is counted once, under the full list of its brands.
The industry count
Between January and June 2026, dealers completed 224 transactions representing 351 franchises, according to Kerrigan Advisors. According to Kerrigan Advisors, a record 462 transactions were completed in the twelve months through June 2026, representing 724 franchises.
Those figures run through June, before the quarter above, and they count transactions: one transaction can include several stores. BSR counts store records, so the two are different units and are not compared here.
How we count
One store record is one franchise dealership store, so a deal that moves several stores is several records. The totals above count buy-sells, new openings and closures. A new opening is counted in the month it was announced, whether it has opened or is still coming soon. License updates are not in these totals, and neither are new openings that are not yet confirmed. Records come from state license records and industry reporting.
